After finishing runners up in the League Cup final at Edgar Street, Vixens still had a chance to turn things around.  In this our final game of the season, with both teams level on points we knew that if we won this game and we would be crowned League champions.

With the majority of our squad year 7 we were so proud of their achievements this season whatever the result was going to be.

So with a full squad available Lads Club Vixens looked very relaxed in their warm up.  It appeared all the nerves from Edgar Street had disappeared.  A few words of advise before kick off and a reminder that win or lose we we’re already so proud of the girls.

Bartestree had kick off and we lined up with 4 in defence and midfield. A great ball played through to Sophie sent her down the right. Taking on the defender she looked to pass the ball into the box.  She sent the ball across the box and Amelia was brought down in the box by the keeper. Penalty with Lauren taking her place on the bench at the start of the match, up stepped Emily who smashed it in.

one nil up after 1 minute 40 seconds as Amy recalls.  We could not believe it, just the start we wanted. No time for celebrating “turn and face girls” was the call from the technical area. We knew there was a long way to go in this game. We stood firm and worked hard through out the first half and coped with the attacks from Bartestree.  Freya had a shot hit the post before a great timed ball through from Megan saw Evie on her way with just the keeper to beat she buried it into the back of the net.

What a difference from Edgar Street where we didn’t turn up in the first half to be two nil up before half time in the title decider.  The cheers from the crowd really spurred the girls on.
The half time whistle sounded and we took in plenty of fluids we knew that the second half we would need to stay switched on and not give any opportunity to get back into the game.

With us having the kick off in the second half playing into the wind we stood firm in defence with Bartestree forcing a few corners.  We cleared our area and sent Lauren down the right but there defence stood firm. Another attack came from them but Emily put herself between the ball and attacker to allow Charlotte to come our and kick down field. From defence to attack we forced a couple of corners.  Playing 4 in defence. Ellie, Jade and Katie squeezed to cover as we pushed Emily up so placing herself outside the area the corner came out to her unmarked she hit it with power. It felt like the ball was in the air for such a long time as it travelled over the keeper in to the back of the net. GOAL 3-0

Still pushing forward ball fell to Meg who had a great chance to kill the game off but put the shot just wide.
With a few minutes to go we made a few changes on came Caitlin and Elizabeth to get some game time.

The sound of the final whistle was quickly followed by cheers of celebrations.

This win was for Coach Wright leaving us to go to uni.

I would personally like to say a vey massive thank you to my side kick, partner in crime aka Wrighty, all the help with coaching over the past 4 years.  As we say great minds think a like well we’ve had great times.  This has to have been the best match to win, so this win was for you.  Good luck at uni  love Brownbear….x
