Lads Club Tigers 3 – Lads Cub Belles 2

Spectators at the Widemarsh Common on Sunday 18 November saw a thrilling encounter between the table-topping Tigers team and the Belles.

The Tigers took the game to the Belles straight from the kick-off but the Belles looked sound in defence with Maisie, Katy and Izzy dealing with the unbeaten Tigers attackers well. Two good saves from Chardonnais also gave the team confidence and chances came for Grace and Chloe in attack but the Tigers held firm.

As the end of the first half approached a driving attack from the Tigers forced the Belles back and Chardonnais was beaten by a close range shot. But refusing to stay back the Belles came bouncing back and following good midfield work both Izzy and Heloise went close with shots after strong runs. As the half time whistle approached Chloe tried a speculative long range shot following an interception from Grace in midfield and it was 1-1.

The Tigers attacked straight from the re-start and following early pressure a run and shot found the back of the net giving the Tigers the edge. The Tigers tried to seal the game in the following ten minutes but strong defending from Katy in defence and efforts from Grace up front kept the Belles in the game. The Belles refused to give in and following a great pass from Caitlin on the left hand side Grace drove a low shot past the keeper to level the scores at 2 – 2.

The final ten minutes saw the Tigers throw everything into the attack to try and win the game but the Belles countered and the midfields were dominant in restricting chances. As the game went into the final two minutes pressure from the Tigers resulted in a corner and a half clearance gave the Tigers a shot from the edge of the box to make it 3-2.

Hard as the Belles tried in the final two minutes they could not find a way back and the referee blew for a 3-2 win for Tigers in a match enjoyed by all spectators.

All the Belles players were awarded ‘Belles Player of the Match’ for their great effort and commitment.
