Belles 1 – Vixens 1

Despite the hard frost the previous night The Belles entertained the Vixens on Sunday 2 December at the Widemarsh Common ground and in a repeat of their October fixture the match ended in a draw.

The Belles took the match to the Vixens straight from the kick off and the Belles attack of Grace and Chloe caused the Vixens defence many problems which they handled well.

With the Belles defensive duo of Maisie and Libby dominant in the early stages this allowed Katy to make strong foraging runs to help the attack but the Vixens defence held firm until the mid-point of first half when a Katy run forced a throw-in. Grace took the throw quickly, finding Chloe in space who finished with aplomb in the bottom left hand corner giving the Belles a half time lead.

The Vixens began the second half with urgency and the Belles defence was quickly on the back foot with Chardonnais in goal having to be sharp on two occasions to prevent a goal.

The momentum began to swing the Vixens way in the second half but strong runs and linking play from Caitlin, Chloe and Grace almost produced a second goal for the Belles. As the match entered the final ten minutes the Vixens almost levelled as Chardonnais produced a point blank save to deny them after the defence was beaten by a clever passing move.

With five minutes remaining the Belles had seemed to have weathered the Vixens onslaught and the defence cleared another corner only to see the returning shot deflect past a helpless Chardonais and the scores were level 1 – 1.

Despite a big effort the Belles could not find the winner in the remaining minutes.

A competitive local derby with a fair result for both teams.
