Sunday 17th February

Lads Club u9 Puma’s 4 – 2 Ross u9’s

On a beautiful clear morning 2 exceptionally talented young football teams faced up. Both teams were keen to get the game played as the weather conditions of late have meant numerous postponements. This was always going to be an exciting game.
With 4 of Lads Club girls unavailable to play due to the half term holiday we were only able to field 7 players and which meant no substitutes !. Lads club started well and should have taken the lead early on but good interceptions from the Ross defence and some great saves by the Ross goalkeeper kept the score level until mid way through the first half. The stalemate was broken when 2 of the Ross attackers played some neat one touch football and split the Lads Club defence and managed to knock the ball past Katie to make it 1-0. The lead seemed to regenerate the Ross players and they soon added a second with a great long shot which came off the post and rolled over the line.

The home supporters tried to lift the spirits of Lads Club girls who duly replied when Ellie broke free controlled and shot to make it 2-1. The Lads club teams grew with confidence and started to play the type of football that we all know they are capable of playing. Precise passing and great movements meant that openings would come along fast and furious. As we approached half time a majestic strike from Beth meant the scores were level. From the restart some great interplay allowed Lillie to add a third just before half time.

The second half was played at a frantic pace with both goalkeepers called to make some excellent saves. As the game drew on Lads Club were able to add a forth with a precise shot from Beth. Both teams ended the game exhausted – 3 cheers and hand shakes all round. A great spectacle for all the supports in a very well natured, competitive game.
