Match Report: Lads Club u9 Tigers v Leominster u9

Sunday 23rd September

Lads Club u9 Tigers v Leominster u9

What a game…….. the two youngest teams in the league battled it out on a windy Widemarsh Common. This was the first time our little team had played a full game on the large pitch so I expected to see a few exhausted players at the end of the game.

Lads Club started well and dominated possession. For a team so young they are already starting to show maturity in their passing and team work. Leominster soon came back into the game and kept our defence and goalkeeper busy. Mid way through the first half the deadlock was broken with a fine strike from Bethan Woodcock. No sooner had the game restarted Lads Club regained possession and surged forward but the visitors kept our determined attackers at bay.

As half time loomed Bethan added a second, much to the supporters delight. With both team substituting on a regular basis Lads Club again broke from the back with a strong run from captain Elin Morgan. As the ball bobbled around on the edge of the penalty area Bethan controlled and shot past the keeper into the top corner – a first half hatrick (that’ll cost her mum a few pounds !).

The second half proved to very much the same with both teams having chances but the goalkeepers managed to keep a clean sheet and the game finished 3 -0 to Lads Club.

At the end of the game both sets of supporters applauded the teams and the two captains led a chorus of ‘three cheers’
