match-report

Ross Juniors 1 – Lads Cub Belles 3

Another fiercely contested match in this competitive League saw the Belles respond to losing The League Shield final to Ross the previous Friday night recording a storming 3-1 win  at the Ross Wyeside pitch on Sunday 21 April.

The Belles were dominant in the early stages of the first half with the attaching trio of Grace, Caitlyn and Harriet forcing the Ross defence onto the back foot. Harriet almost opened the scoring with a low shot which just skimmed the post. Ross came more into the game as the half progressed with the Belles goalkeeper Chardonnay being forced to make a number of good saves, but the teams went in level at half time.

The second half saw a repeat of the first with defences of both sides proving strong, the Belles defence of Katy, Libby and Izzy mopped up almost all the Ross attacks, with Libby making strong interceptions. Midway through the half a clearance from Chardonnay was picked up in midfield and a through ball to Grace saw a firm left foot shot following strong work to hold off two defenders to make it 1 – 0.

The Belles quickly capitalised on this and following another attack, the resultant corner taken with pace and power by Chloe saw Clare get a headed goal. The Belles again tried to force the game for the final ten minutes and deservedly Chloe claimed a goal as effort for all her hard work, with a right foot shot, making it 3-0.

The final minutes saw Ross gallantly search for a goal and following a sweeping move from the wing the Belles defence could not get across in time and Chardonnay was beaten by a low shot just inside the post.

The final moments again saw Ross look for a second  but the Belles defence held firm and Grace almost claimed a second goal only for a last ditch tackle to prevent her.

At the final whistle it was 3-1 to the Belles.

The spirit showed by the Belles team to bounce back following defeat to Ross in the Shield Final at Edgar Street was admirable and the result gives the team great confidence ans something to build upon next season.
