Sunday 8th September 2013

Sunday 8th September…. a monumental day in the progression of ‘girls and ladies football’ at Hereford Lads Club. Today was the first day of the 2013/14 Herefordshire & Worcestershire Ladies Football League season and our newly formed team played their first game away at Welland. From the offset it became very apparent that this was going to be a long and testing progression from girls football to ladies football, especially as we have such a young team. With the exception of Georgina Evans everyone in the team is aged 16 to 18… but we’ve put together a great side and our energy levels and commitment soon paid off as Roxy opened the scoring after 10 minutes.

No sooner had we got back into position when Welland cut our defence open and equalised. This seemed to give our teams the momentum (and a kick up the backside) and we soon took control and added 3 goals before halftime and went into the break 4-1 up. The second half saw numerous chances for both teams with the goalkeepers being called into action on several occasions. As the game progressed the fitness levels of players on both teams started to show but with the ‘safe and steady’ approach we soon added numerous goals and the game ended 9-4 to Lads Club Ladies. Already we are showing that ‘team effort’ and our ‘team belief’ will carry this team into the next few games with confidence.
