Victory for Lads Club Girls U 10 team

Lads Club Girls Under 10 team ‘The Blues’, taking on rivals from across the region, won the West Midlands Regional Futsal indoor football five-a-side event Finals in Birmingham on Saturday May 11.

The team finished top of their round robin league, with three wins and one defeat and they then defeated Wrekin Juniors in the Final play-off match 2-0 with goals from Grace and Eilidh to take the trophy.

The team opened their account with a 1-0 win over old rivals Ross Juniors, although only a single goal from Grace separated the two teams ‘The Blues’ dominated the game with Freya and Eilidh controlling the play in midfield throughout, with Katie secure in defence.

An easy 2-0 win over St Michaels, with assured performances again by Chloe C in goal and Katie in defence allowed Grace to score both goals following great approach work by Chloe B and Freya.

An early goal by Freya against Wrekin Juniors gave the team the springboard to control the game but a long range shot and a deflected goal gave Wrekin Juniors the advantage which they held to the final whistle, and a 2-1 win.

‘The Blues’ entered into their final round robin game against SAHA Girls, from Shropshire, knowing a win would qualify them for the National finals and despite early nerves the team dominated with Chloe C, Eilidh and Grace having chances. The pressure told and following two sharply taken goals from Grace, following good approach play, sealed the game and despite a last minute consolation goal for SAHA, ‘The Blues’ qualified as top of the League.

The play-off match with Wrekin Juniors for the Regional Trophy again saw committed play from the Lads Club team from the first whistle and an early hard low left footed shot from Grace gave the team a deserved 1-0 lead in the early stages.

Harriet went close on a number of occasions causing problems for the Wrekin defence, whilst Chloe C was again confident in goal. Against the run of play an in-direct free-kick went into ‘The Blues’ net, causing supporters a few worries but was disallowed by the referee as the ball had not been touched and the Lads Club team resumed their all-out play looking for victory.

Grace and Harriet continued to cause problems for the Wrekin defence and following good work from Grace forced a defender to lose control in the box from a corner and Eilidh pounced to make it two nil.

For the second year running a Lads Club Under 10 team now progress to the National Futsal Finals, again to be held in Birmingham, at the end of June.

Deserved congratulations to the team and thanks to all the supporters who made the trip and cheered the team on in Birmingham
